Competition news

The Bamford Trophy

Saturday’s competition was a Bogey competition, which generally means higher scoring and this week was no different with only 9 players beating the course throughout the day. Andy Jones continued his good form with a score of +3 but was just pipped by David Thomas who won his last 3 holes to score +4.

Congratulations to Dave and all the other prize winners:

1st Dave Thomas - +4 - £70.00
2nd Andy Jones - +3 - £35.00

19-28 Hcp winner – Sam Scott - +4 - £21.00

Nearest the pin 12th – Martin Haywood - £30
Nearest the pin 15th – Tim Saunders - £30

There were only 5 twos recorded each worth £11.48.

Midweek Comp

29 players took part in a blustery Midweek Comp but scoring was on the low side due to the blowy conditions as 3 players tied on 22pts. However, Richard Sim came out victorious on a back 6 countback.

1st – Richard Sim – 22pts - £26.10

Mal Payne and Richard Sim had the only twos and won £13.05 each.

Denbigh Pro-Am – Sunday 22nd September

I’m looking to enter a team in the Denbigh Golf Club Pro-Am. The entry fee is £195 per team which includes breakfast and a two-course meal afterwards. If you would like to play please come and see me in the shop.

Holywell Golf Club Pro-Am 2019 – Friday 13th September

If you would like to enter a team in this year’s Pro-Am please come and see me in the Pro Shop. It’s a fantastic day where you have the opportunity to play with ex European tour players and some of the best players in the North West. Why the recent surge?

Here’s some homework for you: the next time you're watching golf on TV, keep an eye on the number of pros using putters with larger heads. Whilst some golfers still prefer the traditional blade style putters from years gone by, over 60% of PGA Tour players have a larger headed putter in their bag today – the question is: why?

High MOI putters

These are all to do with stability, feel and alignment. When you take a look at Scotty Cameron's Phantom X 12 and 6 models (pictured above) you will see what we mean.

The larger head style of both putters is designed to increase MOI, which is crucial as it means the putter face will twist less at impact, especially when struck away from the sweet spot.

How do they work?

It's all to do with the additional weight in the extremities of the head when compared to traditional blade style putters, which helps to keep the face stable through impact.

You might also find that a heavier and larger putter is easier to control, therefore improving your stroke. Either way, we have a great selection of putters waiting for you to try in-store.
