Welcome to this week’s Holywell Pro Shop Newsletter.

With the weather starting to take a turn for the worst things are starting to go a little bit quieter at the golf club. In this week’s newsletter we will look at the results from the past week’s competitions, recap a great night at Presentation Evening and look forward to some of the events happening in the next month.

Competition news

Triple Five

Even with the weather deteriorating its great to see so many still playing in the competitions on a Saturday. This week 32 teams took part in the Triple Five competition, a tough format where everyone member of the team really has to be on top form. The winning team produced a fantastic score of 66 points to pip the runners up by 1 point.

Congratulations to the following prize winners:

1st Don Ferguson, Pat McDermott and Dannyy Pierce – 66 points - £43.20 each

2nd Russ Gittins, Merv Jones and Colin Jones – 65 points - £21.60 each

Nearest the Pin 12th – Steve Booth - £30.00
Nearest the Pin 15th – Ian Walker - £30.00

11 two’s recorded (each worth £5.89).

HSS Turkey Trot

The weather on Tuesday really was horrendous, the wind chill in the morning meant temperatures were below freezing, and later the rain came just to rub salt in to the wounds of the seniors. I was astonished that 40 players went out and did battle with the elements, some even coming in with a good score.

Well done to all that finished and to the following prize winners:

1st Gary Jones – 25pts
2nd Jim Jones – 23pts

Division 2:
1st Elwyn Roberts – 23pts
2nd Garfield Thomas – 21pts

Presentation Evening

Saturday was the Annual Prizegiving for the Golf Club.

There were a good number of members in attendance many of whom including myself enjoyed a lovely buffet before the start of the presentations.

All prize money has now been credited to members shop accounts.

Christmas Draw

The Pro Shop Christmas Draw is now up in the shop and ready for you to enter priced at £2 per square.

Stay warm this winter

Together with Glenmuir we're able to offer club-crested jumpers which are of the highest quality and will keep you warm over the winter months. But in order for them to be with you for Christmas and under the tree, please note that you need to place your order by 9th December.

Christmas Wishlist

Fed up of getting socks for Christmas?

Come and grab a golfing wishlist from the shop and let your family members know exactly what you want for Christmas and where they can get it from.

The shop is open 7 days a week and there’s no struggle for parking or queues at the till, it’s the perfect place to shop.

And trust us, we won't point them in the direction of socks!

Upcoming events

Christmas Golf

Taking place on December 14th with an 11am shotgun start we have a Christmas golf competition with prizes for the winners as well for the best Christmas Jumper. There is limited spaces available, and the entry sheet up on the competitions board.

Quiz night

On Wednesday 5th December we have a Quiz Ngiht starting at 7pm with everyone welcome (members and non-members) costing £5 per team (maximum 5 players per team) and the Quiz Masters will be myself, Sophie and Max.

Style for all occasions

In the past, golf clothing has had the reputation of being “for the golf course” with a call to the fashion police needed if you were to wear it anywhere else. Thankfully, times have changed, and we now have a vast selection of fashionable pieces in-store that you’ll be able to confidently wear both on and off the golf course.

Divide and conquer

Sometimes in golf, it's the little things which really grind your gears. Take golf bags, for example - the game can be difficult enough when you're not playing your best, but it becomes downright frustrating when you go to take one club out of the bag and the whole set decides to come out with it. It goes both ways, with sometimes just trying to slot a single club back in proving difficult and time-consuming.
