Welcome to this week’s Holywell Pro Shop Newsletter.

The weather on the whole has stayed fine over the last week and we’ve had some well-supported competitions because of it. In this week’s newsletter we will be looking at the results of those competitions, look forward to the Black Friday and review the Tour Championship on the European Tour.

Competition results

4BBB Stableford

52 pairs took part in the 13 hole competition on Saturday. Some early morning fog delayed the start of the competition but after around 30 mins its cleared and wasn’t a bad day.

This week it was the later starters who seemed to have the advantage when the fog completely cleared.

There was 6 two’s recorded including an eagle two on the 13th by Luke Pilkington Jones with each two was worth £22.73.

HSS Turkey Trot

Yet again this week's Turkey Trot was fantastically supported with 57 seniors taking part. Despite the cold blustery conditions there was some very good scoring in the 13 hole competition.

Congratulations to the following prize winners and a special mention to Ralph Gatrell who won his first competition on his first outing with the seniors after joining the club a few months ago.

1st – Ralph Gatrell – 30pts

Tour news

European Tour – Tour Championships

Danny Willett has won the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai - his first title since the 2016 Masters.

He carded a four-under final round of 68 to finish on 18 under par, two shots ahead of fellow Englishman Matt Wallace and Patrick Reed of the United States.

Willett won his first major at Augusta two years ago but slipped from a career-high of ninth in the rankings to outside the top 450 earlier this year because of injury and a loss of form.

New balls, please

Sometimes we can overlook the small details. Take your golf ball for example; you might be getting by on picking any old ball from your bag, but have you ever wondered just how much of a difference a brand new golf ball will make to your overall performance?

Believe it or not...

Tour professionals change their ball every three to four holes - some even after every hole - so why would you want to use a golf ball that you found on the course sometime last year, that has been from tree to tree with the scuff marks and discolouration to prove it?
