Welcome to this week’s Holywell Pro Shop Newsletter. In this weeks edition we will be looking back at The PGA Championship at Wentworth and the competition results from the past week. Enjoy the read.

Tour news

Shaping up nicely for the Ryder Cup

On Sunday anyone that watched the golf will have witnessed two ball striking exhibitions from two of our Ryder Cup Stars. Francesco Molinari was first up with a two shot win at Wentworth to take The BMW PGA Championship crown in front of Rory McIlory. Molinari produced two bogey free rounds over the weekend to take home the trophy and a cheque of just under a million euros.

Later on Sunday evening, Justin Rose won the Forth Worth Invitational by 3 shots from last year’s US Open winner, Brooks Koepka. Rose carded a 64 on the final day to earn the victory which has moved him up to number 3 in the Golf World Rankings. Don’t be surprised if Rose and Koepka are battling it out again in a few weeks’ time at the 2018 US Open.

Competition news

Midweek competition

A good turnout of 37 people competed in last week’s Midweek 12 hole competition and also had the pleasure of tasting the new caterer’s curry and chilli con carne.

Centenary Cup

Saturday saw another day of great weather and a strong field assemble to take part in the Centenary Cup. After some rain on Friday the course played a little bit softer and as a result there was some more good scoring.

2nd Kevin Leech – 38pts

18 – 28 Handicap winner
Paul Dowling – 37pts

There were 10 Twos recorded in the competition with each one worth £7.20.

Flintshire Handicap League

Well done to the Flintshire Handicap League team who had a fantastic 3 ½ to 1 ½ victory over Pennant Park on Tuesday evening at Holywell.

Ladies Tour

Following a successful Ladies Tour to Carden Park, Mrs Helena Rowley won the Green Jacket and Silver Salver which was presented to her by Lady Captain Linda Leech.

Coaching news

Growing the game!

Every week during term time there will be FREE junior coaching available to all junior members. If you have a potential junior member in your family bring them along to a session to see if they enjoy it, and if they do Junior membership starts from £30.00 a year. The sessions run on a Wednesday evening from 5pm – 6.30pm, and all equipment is available to borrow. It would be great to grow the Junior section and help secure the long-term future of the club.

I am however able to order pretty much anything anyone would want and at competitive prices. Where possible I always price match the internet and sometimes be even cheaper. So, if you can’t see what you want in the shop please ask me and I will endeavour to do my best to get hold of it for you.
